Finally, I've tasted how it is it being involved in politics. Afterall, being a history student studying about politics, you ought to yearn get the taste of the real stuff. The last general elections in 2001, I was probably too young to understand politics. 4 years later and being a JC student, rea life politics in Singapore has really intrigued me. Afterall, you don't get invovled in politics as often as other countries. Last sunday, I went to a SDP rally in Bukit Panjang with
Mr Eddie Koh and his 2 other students. One of them is Aziz, who I hold in great regard. He is an epitomy of an Arts student in PJ, having scored a brilliant 4 As and A1 for GP. The other guy whom I can't rememeber his name, he is a J2 in PJ and takes F Maths.

SDP- Your voice, your party?
Generally, it was a poor rally. The speakers did not convince me and I was expecting a higher standard instead. Nevertheless, the experience lingers in me as it is my first time. I always heard from my former history teacher Mr Kamal on how MM Lee Kuan Yew inspires people with his political speeches. Though there was no LKY there, there was some example of how political speeches. They would speak loudly while emphasising their points then followed by applauses. One part I find funny was that when 1 of the speaker said that PAP ministers earn alot, people down the stages shouted " Peanuts! Peanuts! ". That is, of course referring to the infamous comment by Mrs Goh Chok Tong. This is how fun politics can get to.
The battle for Bukit Panjang... The lightning or the arrow?
The highlight of the night was probably when Dr. Chee Soon Juan arrived on the scene. He is probably the most well known opposition personality in the political scene. Well, who would dare to challenge Goh Chok Tong and Lee Kuan Yew at the same time? My teachers often ridiculed him and make him a laughing stock. I however, refused to place any prejudice on the person. In due respect, he could be one we could learn from- not his mistakes obviously. Finally on that night, I met the man in person. Obliging to a resquest from Mr Koh to get an autograph from him on his book, I walked up to Dr. Chee and got him to sign.
Up close and personal...
It was a good time spent though. Well, I'm still short of 4 years to be eligible to vote. However, in the next GE, I will be voting. Haha. By then, I hope I would not forget my 1st experience of S'pore politics!
